Hydrangeas Susan is a proud new member  of WPSE (Women Painters of the South East). Her painting, Hydrangeas, pictured here,  won 1st place in the WPSE 2015 exhibit. Hydrangeas also took the first place award in the North Carolina State fair in 2014.

“When I looked at this painting, I felt that I could walk right into this scene and pick one of the beautiful hydrangeas. The perspective of looking slightly down on them gave the painting a trompe l'oeile effect as well as an unusual and original composition. There was lovely, masterful work in the rendering of the flowers, lost and found edges, a nice place in the foreground for the eye to rest and incredible light. A beautiful painting in a beautiful frame made a perfect presentation.”

I found it hard to believe that I had never heard of Susan Brabeau before last month—an artist of this notoriety and caliber living in the Triangle, and completely unknown to me? My loss. For Susan is truly a talent of some measure. Her oil paintings are reminiscent of Norman Rockwell, what she refers to as “Americana style.”
